Drying Flower Petals

If you have flowers that are already dried, they can most certainly be used to make memory beads. Although, if you have fresh flowers that are ready for drying, this simple microwave drying technique can be done in a matter of minutes.

Drying flowers and petals in the microwave is a great way to maintain the original color of flower petals. Some colors will change regardless of the process - air dry or microwave dry. But this quick drying process using the microwave not only maintains color but speeds the drying process without having to lay out petals and wait days, sometimes weeks, for them to air dry.

The process takes less than 90 seconds, although its very important to check the flowers for dryness and turn them over in 30 second increments. If this is not done, petals may scorch.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• Flowers

• Microwave

• Paper Towels

STEPS:

  1. Remove flowers from stems and discard stems. If possible, remove petals from bud and discard bud. If flowers are small, this may not be possible. No worries.

  2. Fold a paper towel in half. Make sure it will fit in microwave.

  3. Place flower petals on paper towel and fold over to cover petals. Make sure to not overlap petals. Place in microwave.

  4. Microwave for 30 second intervals to avoid burning petals. After 30 seconds, remove paper towel and petals from microwave and place on counter or tabletop. Carefully uncover petals to check for dryness. It’s ok if some petals stick to the paper towel. The paper towel is absorbing moisture from the petals.

  5. Fold paper towel back over to cover petals again. Flip paper towel and put back into microwave for 30 more seconds. Check petals again. Remove any petals that are crispy. Place on an open paper towel.

  6. Microwave remaining petals for 30 more seconds. All petals should be dry at this point. Unfold papers and remove all petals from the paper towel. Place all petals on a dry open paper towel to air dry until completely cooled.

  7. Once all petals have cooled, place into a dry folded paper towel or napkin. They’re ready to send to me! See instructions on Sending Dried Petals.

Place a few dried petals in a folded paper towel or napkin and place in a letter envelope to mail.

Bracelet Sizing

The bracelet size recommended for a comfortable fit is found by adding an extra 1/2" - 1" to your wrist circumference measurement.

How to measure your wrist:

  1. Measure your wrist with a flexible tape, string or a strip of paper just below the wrist bone, where you would normally wear the bracelet.

  2. If you are using a strip of paper or string, mark it with a pen or marker where it crosses itself.

  3. Then use a ruler to measure the length. That would be your wrist size.

NOTE: Recommended bracelet size is 1/2" - 1” larger than wrist size.
